With echinacea and allergies its this simple. If you didn't clean your kitchen for 40 yrs and then you move something and a big puff of dust came up, you'd start sneezing and you'd say "its the allergies". It's not the allergies, it's the dust and rubbish that's been collecting over years that you begin to shift that brings the reactions. In fact, reactions are a blessing from God trying to tell you "Hey, the kitchen hasn't been cleaned for 40 years, do you think it's time? Or you want to wait till the dust settles and keep sweeping it under the carpet?"Or if you didn't give your car a tune up every few months or year and left it for 40 yrs, how would the oil filter (liver) look? How would your radiator and cooling system (kidneys) function? But most importantly, what would the exhaust pipe (colon) look like? There is no such thing as allergies, but when you start to move things around the body using herbs but haven't deep cleaned you bowels, you can get a reaction. Your liver also has enzymes which regulate your allergies, and if your liver is burdened or toxic or hasn't been cleansed, then you can get a reaction from things that you normally wouldn't/shouldn't. If the house or habitat is clean and built up, herbs shouldn't affect you in a negative way. This is my experience.
When you are allergic to a food or herb, you have found a food or herb which is helping you to detox your body and this is why you are getting a "reaction". This is a sign your body needs to get rid of some things.
